The idea of Solaropolis
With this mission, 10X Labs together with its partners and community, explore the Global Grand Challenge of completely transitioning to renewable energy at massive scale. Power from solar and wind are already disrupting fossil fuels, and affordable electric transport is almost here. The missing piece is economically feasible energy storage - batteries - that need to come down in cost massively to make the idea of Solaropolis, the city of sun and wind, into a practical possibility.

Batteries are to the energy matrix similar to what bandwidth is for smart phones. Their price and capacity limit the extent to which we can depend on renewable energy.

be possible to power an entire city from solar panels and wind turbines.
The mission will start out by exploring different energy storage technologies (lithium-ion batteries, flow cells, solid state batteries and more) through field research. We will map out what is possible to do today and will be available to us soon.
10X Labs will then design a collaborative prototyping workshop through which participants and partners can prototype new business models and user experiences, leveraging other exponential technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Augmented Reality.
